Come to Tide Mill Organic Farm for a relaxing vacation in our lovingly-maintained, century-old farmhouse. Enjoy water views, blue herons and basking seals from every room in the house. Around you, daily farm life unfolds as it has for over 200 years. You’ll hear cows mooing amidst the sounds of calling loons and chanting frogs. (But it’s wicked peaceful at night. We promise.)
The farmhouse is an idyllic, year-round setting for families, farmers and gardeners, artists and writers, outdoor enthusiasts, or anyone seeking solitude and beauty. And if you start craving civilization, nearby Eastport and Lubec offer restaurants, shopping, whale watch tours, and their own quirky charms.
The farmhouse has five bedrooms, 1 and 1/2 baths, a complete kitchen with a double oven and microwave; and a large dining, living and gathering room.
We can’t promise that the combination of water views and sunsets over Bells mountain will forever change your life, but it happens. (Some people have refused to leave. We provide real estate referrals in those instances.)
Can you even picture a place without human congestion? This is it! Take a morning walk among our misty pastures and dangle your toes in cool saltwater. Bald eagles (the real thing!) nest on the farm and nearby islands, and the inter-tidal zone thrives with marine creatures. Alongside it all, we milk cows and feed calves every morning and every night. (There aren’t many things that are cuter than a calf.)
We charge $1200 per week plus Maine 9% lodging tax. Pets are allowed with prior discussion and an additional fee of $50. There are also additional charges for large groups (over 5 people). We include a sampling of our fresh, organic vegetables, dairy and meats. Once you try our food, we are sure you'll be hooked and want to purchase additional food throughout your stay.
Our rental week is from Saturday at 3:00 pm to Saturday at 9:00 am. Shorter stays are possible with a minimum of three nights, depending on availability.
- Beachcombing: Explore the six miles of the rocky Maine shore on Tide Mill Farm, hunt for shells and rocks, and escape from anything that warrants escape. (We can lock your phone in the safe if it helps.) Check out eastern Maine’s legendary, monstrous tides, which lift and drop the water level a full 23-feet each day. (That’s water depth, not distance up the beach.) Explore the inter-tidal zone where marine creatures thrive in the chilly water and vast tides.
- Birding: Down East Maine is a great place for birding. The region sports the greatest variety of habitats on the East Coast, including boreal and northern hardwood forests, bogs, fresh- and salt-water marshes, grassy and shrubby fields, streams and lakes, steep rugged headlands, extensive tidal flats, and coastal islands. Our Downeast Spring Birding Festival was named by the Dept. of Inland Fish and Wildlife as one of the best on the nation. Learn more at: https://www.thecclc.org/birdfest-intro/
- Farming: Observe and participate in the daily activities of Tide Mill Organic Farm.
