The farm is located in Washington County, along the edge of Maine's easternmost coast. The traditional livelihoods of fishing, farming, and forestry are still the mainstay for many families. We exist in a largely resource-based economy with people living very close to the rhythms of the earth and its changing seasons. Currently, members of the 7th generation sustainably manage the woodlands and manage blueberry fields. The renovated century-old farmhouse is a vacation rental enjoyed by people who want to experience the beauty of coastal Maine on a historical working family farm.
The members of the 8th generation produce organic foods: vegetables, fruit and berries, meat, eggs, and dairy. During November and December the three generations work together to deliver fragrant balsam fir creations to homes from coast to coast.
Aaron Bell and Carly DelSignore are the husband/wife team that own and operate Tide Mill Organic Farm, the arm of the farm that grows and markets certified organic foods, specializing in certified organic, nutritious food including vegetables, eggs, meat, milk, balsam wreaths and educational farm tours. Carly, born and raised in western Maryland, met Aaron, 8th generation Bell, at the University of Maine in Orono in 1996. Carly and Aaron work together managing their different passions within the farm business. Equally shared is the work and joys of farming as well as raising our children, Hailey, Paige, Henry and Ruth. Our goals include connecting people to healthy food; educating consumers and our community about the importance of locally farmed, organic food; strengthening our local economy; and rejuvenating agriculture as an economically viable lifestyle in Washington County. We hope to leave behind a more enriched agricultural environment and local food systems for future generations.
